A new set of drilling cuttings treatment plant has been ready for shipment recently. It is a waste management project for a CNPC project in China. The drilling cuttings treatment plant will be used to treat oil based mud and cuttings.

As the waste management plant will be used to treat to oil based mud and cuttings, below processing equipment are included in the quotation:

1) Vertical cuttings dryer is major equipment used to oil based mud and oil based cuttings. 1 each GNCD930D vertical cuttings dryer is included in the system. Vertical Cutting Dryer uses centrifugal force to dry drilled solids in oil or synthetic base fluids. GN Vertical Cuttings Dryer specially designed not only for oil based mud, SBM but also can be used for water based drilling waste.

2) Decanter centrifuge is the second stage separation equipment in the cuttings treatment plant.

3) Screw pumps are used in the drilling cuttings treatment system as flush pump for vertical cuttings dryer and centrifuge feeding pump. Many people are wondering, screw pump costs higher, why GN uses screw pump to flush the vertical cuttings dryer. Water pump price is much lower than the screw pump. Can water pump be used as flush pump for vertical cuttings dryer? The answer is No. As vertical cuttings dryer is used to treat oil based cuttings, water cannot be used for flushing. Clean oil based mud or diesel oil should be used for flush.

GN Solids Control recommend them oily sludge separation system by heating and chemical washing.

By using the right chemical and heat washing (70 C Degree). It is possible to reduce the OOC (oil on the cuttings) to 2%.For some kinds of drilling cuttings, clients may need one more vertical cuttings dryer to treat the cuttings discharge from the Shaker in the enclosed system.

GN oil sludge separation system can be used to treat Oily sludge from:

1) Crude Oil tank cleaning sludge

2) Refinery plant waste oil sludge

3) Drilling waste oil sludge

The treatment capacity specified is depending on the decanter centrifuge capacity. The raw material waste to the shale shaker or vertical cuttings dryer can be larger than it. 2018 is a busy and wonderful year. Every weeks, different waste management systems or liquid / solids separation equipment are dispatched from GN Solids Control Beijing factory one by one. Recently, another full package of slurry treatment system for construction hydrovac excavation has been dispatched to sea port and will sail to Canada jobsite soon.

The slurry treatment system will be used for hydrovac slurry separation and horizontal directional drilling slurry treatment. The principle of the slurry separation system is to use liquid and solids separation equipment to treat soil or soup or slurry generated from the hydrovac or HDD project, and produce reusable material for construction and discharge clean water.

The hydrovac excavation waste slurry treatment system for Canada client includes following packages:

1)1 set of Pick Up and Washing Tank. It is a customized V bottom tank complete with walkways, guardrails, valves, clean gate and pipelines.

2)1 set of Primary Vibration shale shaker complete with coarse Screens

3)1 set of Secondary Shale Shaker separator complete with API mesh screens

4)1 set of mud cleaner Desilter complete with shaker assembly underneath the hydra cyclone unit

5)1 set of 22 inch Big Bowl Dewatering Centrifuge with big volume for water treatment

The big bowl decanter centrifuge is located in a telescopic skid. The skid can be low down for international container shipment and for inland shipment. During working it can be lift up to suitable height.

GN Shale Shakers and desilter mud cleaner as well as the big bowl decanter centrifuge will separate soils and solids from the waste slurry water, and clarify the soil and solids into different size of particles. The recycled aggregates and soils or sands can be reused as construction field materials. The recycled water can be reused for the HDD act ivies or to be discharge.

This week, 2 sets GNLW764A –VFD large bowl decanter centrifuge are ready and will be dispatched to Australia customer. The 2 sets big bowl centrifuge equipped with PLC smart control VFD control system will be used for mining field waste water treatment.

GNLW764A-VFD is a large bowl decanter centrifuge designed and made by GN Solids Control. The GNLW764A-VFD decanter centrifuge is with 30 inch (760mm) diameter big bowl, and the bowl length is up to 3328mm. It is a Two Phase Decanter Centrifuge with high wear protection used for liquid and solids separation.

The bowl diameter and length ratio is up to 4. The 30 inch big bowl centrifuge is with big volume and mainly used for micro tunneling and mining industry for big capacity application.

Features of GNLW764A-VFD decanter centrifuge:

1) The bowl material of GNLW764A-VFD centrifuge is made from SS2304 Duplex stainless steel by centrifugal casting.

2) The Solids Discharge ports are protected by 360°type with wear protection with 12 fully covered tungsten carbide discharge wear liners.

3) The Liquid Discharge of GNLW764A-VFD centrifuge is equipped with adjustable Weir Plates. Operators can adjust the wetness of the centrifuge discharge by changing the liquid discharge plates.

4) On the centrifuge bowl, there are 8 ports fully covered by Tungsten Carbide Wear Liners; with patented design speed bar. There are also protections on the centrifuge bowl solids charge ports. The Solids discharge ports are protected by Tungsten Carbide Wear Liners, furthermore, there are tungsten carbide scrapers for cleaning.

5) The centrifuge bowl are protected by Tungsten Carbide Tiles with stellite backing plates, the bowl conveyor is tiled the entire length of centrifuge

GNLW223 Series decanter centrifuge is specially designed for small capacity, small footprint , and for fine solids separation Bowl material of GNLW223 Series decanter centrifuge is made from SS 304 by centrifugal casting. The screw on the centrifuge bowl are protected with Tungsten Carbide Tiles for anti-abrasive and for longer lifetime.

GN SRU (Solids Removal Unit) is a closed loop fluids system that recycles the drilling fluids for mineral and diamond drilling. Capacity of GN SRU (Solids Removal Unit) is 150L/Min. The SRU significantly reduces the environmental impact and greatly improved the drilling operation efficiency. GN SRU (Solids Removal Unit) includes a small shale shaker and the small size decanter centrifuge GNLW223 series. Cut point of 150L/Min GN SRU (Solids Removal Unit) is 2-5 Microns.

GNLW223 Series decanter centrifuge is a 8inch small size decanter centrifuge, it is the corn product in GN Solids Removal Units (Smaller versions for Diamond Drilling).

The reason there is a small size shale shaker is that, the shale shaker is used to remove the big size solids and reduce the mud weight, than to protect the centrifuge. The big size solids will wear out the centrifuge bowl or even block it. And the max. solids content for centrifuge should be less than 15%. Heavy solids content will reduce the separation efficiency.

In some cases, there are no large solids as Diamond drilling is implemented from the beginning of the hole. So in some cases, clients will do not want small size shale shaker, they will only want the small size centrifuge for diamond drilling.

Besides the small size 9 inch centrifuge for diamond drilling, GN Solids Control makes other bigger size decanter centrifuges with different standard for different applications: the most popular size 14 inch, big bowl 18 inch, 22 inch and the largest bowl size 30 inch.

There are many different standards for explosion proof certificate for motors, control panels and electrical components (VFD drives, EX air conditioner, cable gland, socket and plug, etc…). Many clients do not know the difference and they do not know how to choose the right standard for the project.

Below is the most popular EX standard we mostly know:

1) CNEX is China National Explosion Proof standard; this can be used in China and many other countries. CNEX is an approved certifying body according to IECEx which is the leading authority in the world for ensuring standards are met and maintained. CNEX are registered as a ‘Certification Body’ (CB) by IECEx and they are authorized to certify and put their mark on equipment.

2) ATEX is a Europe explosion proof standard. It can also be used in many other countries out of Europe. But ATEX is normally not accepted in Australia, USA etc.

3) IECEX is International Electrotechnical Commission Explosive standard. But many Europe countries clients do not accept IECEX. They only accept ATEX. You can learn more about IECEX standard here:

And there are many other explosion proof standards especially for certain countries, like TP TC certificate for Russia. UL standard for America, but UL is also accepted in some other countries.

However, the standard selection is also depending on the end user and the third party for inspection. Even in the same country, different end user has different standard. Or even for the same end user for different project, they have different standard. Like KOC only accept IEC for deep drilling, but for workover rigs, or small rigs, other EX standards maybe accepted.

So clients who intend to order equipment for hazardous areas need to make choice depending on the end users who they are dealing with, and what the end user want.

For the same model motors from the same suppliers, maybe it complies with ATEX certificate, CNEX certificate, and IECEX certificate, and UL certificate. Even the model and product is the same. If the requested certificate standard is different, the prices are different, and nameplate is different, and QA/QC documents record in the manufacturing company are different. And the nameplate cannot be changed after delivery from the OEM factory. It is not allowed by the Certification Body. Otherwise, the certificate will be canceled.
