Disc stack centrifuge is also called 3-phase centrifuge unit. It is one of the major separation equipment for oily sludge separation.

In oily sludge separation system, there are normally at least 2 sets centrifuges. Firstly, a decanter centrifuge will remove the sand to reduce the solids contents in the liquids. Disc centrifuge will be used after 2-phase decanter centrifuge.

Why disc centrifuge should be used after decanter centrifuge?

The reason is that, in order to have better separation performance, the max. solids / soil content in the liquid entering into disc centrifuge is better to be controlled below 3%. So before feeding to 3-phase Disc centrifuge, the oily sludge liquid should be separated by 2-phase decanter centrifuge.

What is the difference of 2-phase decanter centrifuge and 3-phase disc centrifuge?

2-phase decanter centrifuge is used for liquid and solids separation. After the decanter centrifuge, the output is liquid mixture (oil & water mixture), and solids phase. While the disc centrifuge is used for 3 phase separation. After disc centrifuge, there will be 3 kinds of outputs: water, oil and solids.

What is the quality of the solids, recovered oil and water after decanter centrifuge and 3 phase disc centrifuge?

The oil content in the solids discharged from decanter centrifuge is between 2%-5% which can be sent to biodegradation or thermal unit for final disposal.

The oil/water mixture from decanter centrifuge will be separated again to get oil, water and soil. The recycled water recovered from disc centrifuge can be reused in the oily sludge washing process, or for dilution. The oil content in the recovered oil from disc centrifuge is around 500-1000PPM. It is clean enough to sell to the refinery company.

Design principle of GN Oil Sludge Treatment System:

1) GN Oil Sludge Treatment System is to use chemical to wash the oil sludge. For a better result for chemical washing, it is better to keep the material with heat to temperature of 60-70 C degree.

2) After washing, the oily slurry will be pumped to GN separation equipment for separation. After GN separation equipment (shale shaker, decanter centrifuge, disc centrifuge…etc…) clients can get oil, water and solids. The recycled water can be reused in the washing process, and the oil is clean enough to sell to the refinery company, the solids contain oil between 2%-5% which can be sent to biodegradation or thermal unit for final disposal.

1) 2 sets High speed centrifuge for each package for barite recovery and fine solids separation. Features of the GNCM-40A drill cuttings drying system:

The centrifuge on GNCM-40A is set up on a telescopic skid with height adjustable. The advantage of this design is to allow the fluids discharged from the centrifuge to flow to the storage tank or active mud tank by gravity. But when move the complete system by truck, the telescopic skid should be lower down, and there is no storage capacity for the catching fluids from centrifuge.

The system includes below processing equipment:

1) A pre-mixing and heating tank. Operators feed the oil sludge to the premixing tank, they can dilution and heating the materials per needed in the tank.

2) There is a 4-tank chemical dosing unit is equipped in the system. There are 3 tanks for automatically PAM mixing and dosing. Operators can dose chemicals to premixing tank for demulsification, to make the oily sludge easier for next process. The 4th tank in the chemical dosing unit is for PAC liquid chemical dosing for flocculation.

3) After mixing in the premixing tank, material will be fed to a shale shaker to remove the big size solids. Then the solids will be discharged outside of the system, the liquid will be recovered to a small storage tank and then feed to decanter centrifuge. Before liquid entering into decanter centrifuge, flocculants will be added to remove as more ultrafine solids as possible.

4) A 3-phase centrifuge is followed by the decanter centrifuge to separate oil and water. And then the oil and water will flow to the oil tank and water tank respectively.
