Regarding to constant torque self-adaptation function for Screw of Centrifuge, here are the details.

The changes of working current (torque) of back motor can be real-time monitoring by Frequency Converter. PLC controls input current (torque) of back motor through program, which can change working speed of back motor.

When the flow of feed pump becomes bigger or concentration increases, the working current (torque) of back motor becomes bigger, the working torque set by Differential becomes bigger, the solid phase within drum increases, and Back Motor Frequency Converter controls back motor to reduce speed, increases the differential speed between screw and drum, for discharge sludge quickly, until PLC controller monitors working current (torque) of back motor returns to set value.

When flow of feed pump becomes smaller or concentration decreases, working current (torque) of back motor becomes smaller, working torque set by Differential becomes smaller, the solid phase within drum decreases, and Back Motor Frequency Converter controls back motor to increase speed, decrease differential speed between screw and drum, and reduce the number of push times, until PLC controller monitors working current (torque) of back motor returns to set value.

In this way, the dryness fluctuation of the sludge discharged from centrifuge can be kept small, and the dryness consistency is good.

Regarding to the Clients’ questions about the Comparison of Centrifuge and Filter Press, GN Company Technical Team had research and prepared report, details as follow.

1. Installation + Footprint

1.1 Decanter Centrifuge

Decanter is compact structure, and easy to install, commissioning and operate.

The supporting equipment is only Polymer Dosing device + sludge feed pump + discharge conveyor.

The whole machine is fully sealed, and good for workshop environment.

1.2 Filter Press

Filter takes up large area.

And supporting equipment is Polymer Dosing device + sludge feed pump + discharge conveyor + flush pumps + air compressors + sludge conditioners, etc.

Filter is open operation, and the whole machine is poor sealing.

There is high pressure cleaning water mist, and there is also Odor polluting environment.

If management is not good, it will cause mud overflow.

1.3 Space Requirement

Filter required installation space is 2~3 times than Decanter Centrifuge.

Decanter shall be better for some clients, where their work plant area is limited.

2. Maintenance

2.1 Decanter Centrifuge

Decanter is fully sealed, and only a few wearing parts, such as V-belt, Bearing, which can be easy find from local market.

2.2 Filter Press

Filter Press has many wearing parts.

Due to the characteristics of open operation, the rotating shaft, gears, bearings and filter belts are corroded by sewage seriously, which is easy to get damaged, and shall always be replacement.

If feed pressure is too high, the filter cloth will be easily damaged and the filter plate will be deformed.

1. Continuous Operation + Labor Intensity + Automation Degree

1.1 Decanter Centrifuge

It works continuously, and has low requirement for labor workers, and highly automatic, and simple operation. When the feed concentration changes, the slip and torque of the drum and screw will automatically track and adjust

One operate worker can manage 2 to 3 units at the same time.

1.2 Filter Press

It works Not continuously, and operation is complicated, and technical requirement is high, because when the feed concentration changes, the dosing amount, and flushing water pressure all shall be adjusted

It's working procedure as follow.

Firstly, feeding sewage until then it is full.

Secondly, pressing and squeezing water out.

Thirdly, unload the sludge cake.

Fourthly, repeat the 3 steps above.

Generally, two operate workers operate 1 unit. The labor intensity is high and working environment is poor, so welfare and wage requirement for Operating workers are relatively high.

2. Energy Consumption (Electricity + Water)

2.1 Electricity

Decanter electricity cost is some higher than Filter.

2.2 Water

Water Flushing for clean is not necessary during continuous operation of Decanter.

Only if Decanter stops working for long hours, it's better to clean with water, normal pressure, 10~15minutes is Okay.

Water Flushing for clean is Necessary for Filter every day!

At least 60~70m3 water shall be used for flushing. The waste flushing water shall be collected Sedimentation Tank for further treatment.

Note:

The filter cloth of Filter Press shall be clean regularly during operation; otherwise it will affect dewatering performance of filter press. This takes much time and labor effort.

Generally Decanter Centrifuge, with bowl and screw material made of stainless 304 or 316, is enough for the majority of project, while there are some projects are for treatment of corrosive sludge, for example, high salinity wastewater has high content of chloride, the Clients would ask all wetted part are made of duplex stainless steel 2507.
